Water Jetting

We use high pressure jetting equipment which produces 3,000 psi of water pressure. Pumping at ten gallons a minute, the jets are effective at both clearing any drain blockage and cleaning the inside of the drain pipes at the same time. Using a selection of nozzles firstchoice can adapt to any situation.

CCTV Inspections

firstchoice uses a colour mini camcoiler drain and pipe TV Inspection system for surveying pipe diameters from 50mm through to 225mm.

Features include a high resolution LCD TFT technology screen, built in VCR, portable text generator keyboard with auto on-screen meterage readout, and a camera / lighting control unit. 50 metres of push rod is fitted with a 45mm high resolution TV camera head.

Home Buyer Survey

We can provide a comprehensive pre-purchase video and  report of any defects and faults plus a quotation for remedial works required that could be costly at a later date. This will enable you to negotiate on the purchase price of the property.

firstchoice has extensive experience in specifying, installing and commissioning septic tanks. Our experience really does make a difference, giving you a fit-and-forget solution that will provide years of dependable service.

Stringent regulations govern the installation of septic tanks, and there are several reasons why a septic tank may not be appropriate for your property. Count on us for the best possible guidance.

Understanding Septic Tanks

The illustration alongside shows a typical septic tank arrangement. Key elements:

A - Wastewater and sewage from the property is fed through to the septic tank.

B - The septic tank allows the solids to settle out at the bottom. The tank must be emptied out periodically, typically once a year.

C - The absorption field (or ‘soakaway’) is a critical component, as it allows the untreated liquid element of the sewage to soak away underground where it is dispersed naturally.

Key elements of a septic tank

A septic tank is a watertight enclosure designed to allow solids in the sewage to settle and decompose via bacterial action over a period of time. Simultaneously, it allows the liquid effluent to separate out and disperse into the soil via a land drain system.

A septic tank collects and stores sewage solids. As the tank fills up, it will need emptying. This is typically done once a year by a local contractor.

Tanks come in different shapes and sizes, and are chosen to match the demands placed by the users of the property.

Septic tanks are typically of GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) construction. We use fully certified tanks from Titan and Klargester.

At firstchoice Modern sewage treatment plants are rapidly replacing septic tanks as a much more environmentally responsible and long-term solution. That’s because sewage treatment plants actively harness natural processes, such as aerobic bacterial digestion, to help break down and neutralise sewage.

Understanding sewage treatment plants

The illustration alongside shows a typical sewage treatment plant installation. Key elements:

A - Wastewater and sewage from the property is fed through to the treatment plant.

B - The treatment plant allows the solids to settle out and actively treats the sewage via an aerobic (oxygen-dependent) process, breaking it down.

C - The resulting effluent, which is typically 95% clean, can be discharged into a nearby ditch, stream, river, lake or land drain system, subject to appropriate approvals.

Key elements of a sewage treatment plant

The compact, below-ground sewage treatment plant depicted in this cutaway illustration is a watertight enclosure designed to allow solids in the sewage to settle and decompose via an aerobic (oxygen-assisted) biological action.

  • Coarse solids are screened out and retained for gradual breakdown.
  • The screened ‘liquor’ is continuously distributed over plastic media by an airlift pump operated by an electric blower sited a little distance away. This maximises the natural aerobic process.
  • Subject to relevant official consents, the resulting effluent, which is remarkably clean, can be dispersed into a watercourse or suitable ground soakaway,

Sewage treatment plants are typically of GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) construction. We use fully certified systems from Titan and Klargester — the UK’s leading suppliers of wastewater treatment systems
